On May 24, Kelsey and I race the Garden Creek Gap Road Race. I forgot my camera so...no pictures. The Pro, 1, 2, 3 Women did two laps around a 25-mile course plus an extra time up the climb. Kelsey got into a break-away with two Bountiful Mazda Girls. On the final lap one of them made a break and got away. Her teammate obviously was not going to help Kelsey bridge up to her so Kels ended up time trialing the final lap. When they got to the final climb the girl who had been sitting on her took off. Since Kelsey had pulled her for 25 miles there was nothing she could do. Kelsey ended up 3rd overall.
My race was one lap around the 25-mile course plus an extra time up the climb totalling 33-miles. We got going right from the start. At the top of the climb I found myself in a break with six other riders. We hammered around the lap with a few unsuccessful break-away attempts. By the time we got to the climb the second time I had nothing left to give. All that I really have in cycling is a sprint and when the finish of a race is at the top of a mountain it does nothing for me. I finished 7th.
On May 31, Kelsey raced the Skull Valley TT (Utah State Time Trial Championships). It was 40k on a flat road with plenty of wind. Kelsey wasn't feeling to hot that day. But, she managed to place 5th or 6th (she can't remember and I can't find results online).
The next weekend, June 7, was the Sugarhouse Crit. For those of you not living in Salt Lake...Sugarhouse Park has a beautiful landscape complete with rolling hills, a pond, soccer fields, playgrounds, a stream, B-ball courts, pavilions, and a winding 1.7-mile paved loop.
I was planning on racing in the Cat 5 group with Alex Izykowski. I have never skipped a race for a lamer reason but here ya go- I can't race in my regular glasses because they slide down on my face AND they direct wind into my eyes making it so that I can't see anyway. My one and only set of contact lenses were at the oval. By the time I got ready to go and realized that I didn't have my contacts it was too late to get them from the oval and make it to the race on time so I had to skip it.
Alex raced and ended up placing 2nd. Here he is with his trophy!

PCIM Team ready to go!
Kelsey's team raced really well. It wasn't Kelsey's day to win. This was her day to help out her team. They ended up sweeping the podium. Below, you can see Tiffany crossing the finish line.

Ryan Bedford and Andrew Love raced in the Cat 4 group. Here they are having a post-race chat. Brian Boudreau also raced in the Cat 3 group. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good picture of him.

Here's our good friend Mike Sohm racing in the Pro, 1, 2 group. Mike didn't place as high as he would have liked at Sugarhouse but he was the winner of the Bear Lake Road Race (his first Pro, 1, 2 win).
